Volumising Sea Salt Shampoo and Dry Oil Body Spray

P1020187

It’s been a while since I posted a DIY recipe even though I’ve been experimenting with all kinds of natural homemade products like these luxurious pamper products.

The shampoo is a recreation of my favourite shampoo from Lush called ‘Big’. It’s so uplifting with it’s sea breeze fragrance and it leaves my hair feeling so clean, moisturised and full of volume.

However, it’s not cheap and I can’t afford to buy it as often as I want to use it. So instead, I made my own version which although lacking fresh sea water and seaweed, still gives me that fresh and vibrant hair wash, for a fraction of the price.

Then when you step out of the shower, why not spritz with some dry oil spray and lock in some moisture. I have never enjoyed putting cream on after the shower, for me it’s a chore but also I hate the feeling of non absorbed cream on my skin, especially before putting clothes on. Oil sprays are my answer, I used to use Avon oil sprays religiously but their questionable animal testing ethics nipped that in the bud way back when, so instead I make my own which is ridiculously easy and just as moisture rich.

Sea Salt Shampoo:

  • 1/4 cup liquid castile soap
  • 2 tbsp lemon juice
  • 2 tbsp lime juice
  • 1 tsp liquid coconut oil
  • 4 drops each; Neroli, Mandarin, Vanilla and Orange pure therapeutic grade essential oils
  • 1/2 cup coarse, pure sea salt

Whisk together the liquid ingredients until well blended then stir in the salt. Store in a lidded pot or jar and use about a heaped teaspoon or more for longer hair.

Dry Oil Spray:

A note on ingredients:

*Waters; the best choice for preservation is pure distilled water or a floral water/hydrosol like rose or orange blossom water. Spring water or filtered water can also be used.

*Polysorbate 20 is a non toxic emulsifier derived from coconuts which helps oils and waters blend. It is a optional ingredient, if you happen to have some then it’s great to use but you do not need to specially purchase it for this recipe, you will just need to shake the bottle before each use.

  • 1/4 cup distilled or filtered water*
  • 1 1/2 tsp pure vegetable glycerine
  • 1 tsp grapeseed, sweet almond, or olive oil
  • 5 drops pure vitamin E oil (optional)
  • 1 1/4 tsp Polysorbate 20* (optional)
  • 10 drops pure therapeutic grade essential oils (optional)

Add all the ingredients together in a spray bottle and shake well. Spray liberally on wet or dry skin.
