Stove ‘Baked’ Beans

In Britain, every day, 1.5 million cans of Heinz Baked Beans are sold. That’s just one brand! They really are a daily staple and I’ve even been served them in the depths of West Africa. Making great baked beans at home, without the excessive sugar, salt and additives is easier and tastier than you may think! It’s also fun to create a home made version of those things you’ve been eating from a can since you can remember. The taste is not exactly like the canned stuff, obviously, but much more luxurious, homely and comforting. Definitely worth a try, I was surprised with how good they were! I served them with simple mashed sweet potatoes for a delicious, hearty meal.

Check out the recipe I used from Simply Recipes. I used tinned Haricot beans, the bean used by Heinz and other brands in the tins, I also omitted the bacon as I am vegetarian, next time I’ll try using vegetarian bacon style rashers.
