This is a really simple celebration cake for a musician or a music lover. I made this for a colleague at work, a keen and very talented guitarist and singer. Try this with different shapes and colours and you’ll find you can make endless creations with just simple steps.
You can use any recipe you like for the cake. I used my favourite chocolate cake recipe baked in 2 8 inch sandwich tins. I then sandwiched the cakes together with a simple buttercream of 200g soft unsalted butter (or vegan margarine) beaten with 400g icing sugar and 1tsp vanilla extract until very light and creamy. I drew a music note on a piece of thick paper and cut it out then laid it over a piece of rolled fondant and cut round the stencil. I then used silver shimmer spray to colour the icing over a piece of greaseproof paper. I did three coatings leaving it to dry to the touch in between. I covered the top of the cake with buttercream and lay the dry note in place on the top. I used a medium star nozzle on a piping bag to decorate the edges and wrote Tony’s name using a grey gel writing pen. Voila!
